Both Parenting and Expansion Management magazines have ranked the Monongalia County School System as one of the top public school systems in the nation. The Mon County Board of Education governs the district, which educates more than 11,000 students in 11 public elementary schools, five middle schools and three high schools. Several schools within the district continue to be among the best performing and highest-ranked schools throughout the state and country. The board of education estimates that more than $10,000 is spent on each student per academic year and that the school system’s pupil teacher ratio is 14:1. More information on the county’s schools can be accessed here (http://boe.mono.k12.wv.us/home).
